Summary

With the Michael situation mainly resolved, Dr. Jennifer Keller has been working hard trying to find a cure for Dr. Carson Beckett who remains in stasis. She believes she has a solution but it remains to be tested.

Richard Woolsey arrives to take command with little fanfare and no reassuring speech and immediately sets his plans in order to be stringent with resources and to abide by the IOAs procedures. As such, he decides that although Michael has yet to be found, their search for him has ended. He also orders Keller to test her cure on Beckett.

Beckett is awakened and Keller's cure seems to be doing the trick. His organ failure appears to have halted. Woolsey immediately plans to send him back to Earth but before he can do so, Teyla, Sheppard and McKay discover a medical situation for him to attend to. Keller has fallen ill. An alien organism has caused her body to produce vines that Beckett recognizes as similar to the process of growing a hive ship. Everyone who ventured unto Michael's base has been infected.

The organism has affected Keller's brain, using her mind to grow deeper into the city. It proves impossible to cut the vines from her without harming her and the growths soon cut her off. The vines feed on power systems and they are shut down as a defensive measure which proves ineffective. Beckett manages to devise a cure and Sheppard volunteers to be his test subject. When it appears to work, Ronon volunteers to deliver it to Keller, but his attempts to cut through the vines blocking his path, causes them to attack him and nearly kill him. Sheppard decides to fly a jumper and ram it into the tower and successfully makes it to Keller to deliver the cure.

Woolsey expresses doubts about the unorthodox methods he was forced to employ on his first day. If he can't follow the rules he's laid out he doubts that he'll succeed in the job.

Notes

Following the events of "Search and Rescue", the expedition has taken down Michael's network, though Michael remains elusive and they believe he is still alive. Michael's hybrids, including Kanaan remain on the mainland of the planet though they have been cured using Beckett's iratus bug retrovirus to restore their human DNA.
